Park City: The Alpine Slides

A few weeks ago we went up to Utah for a nice getaway, and to visit my sister Jaci. It had been years and years since I had gone on the alpine slides, so we decided it would be fun! I checked before we went, and we were allowed to take Lily on it with us. She loved it...especially the "big swing"...aka, the chair lift. Jake offered to take Lily down with him, but as we were putting our sleds on the slide, he asked the lady at the top if it was possible to go fast enough to go up over the edge or get enough air to fly off,...needless to say, Lily went with me! It was a lot of fun, and Lily said WEEE! the whole way day. Even if the slides wouldn't have been a blast, it was worth it just to see the leaves changing color! Here are some pictures from our little excursion.

Book Review #7: Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card

This is the 2nd of the "Ender" Books, and it may even be better! Card's imagination is amazing! Like I said about "Ender's Game", I wouldn't have picked out "Speaker" on my own, but it was a wonderful book! This one was even less "space wars" like, and more of a fantasy based book. I loved it, and was pleasantly surprised! My rating: A! A must read

Mormon Missionary Calendar...WHA??!!?

Yes, it's 1:52 am, and I cant sleep, so I was looking on some dumb celebrity gossip sites..(ahem, Perezhilton.com and tmz.com...I cant get enough!...:-) ) and I found this post about a Mormon Missionary calendar. Weird, I know. So I went to the site and still, I just dont get it! I cant decide what I think of it,...and who would pose for a calendar like this, let alone, who's gonna buy it??!? It may make a good, gag or white elephant gift! ( I thought of it first, for the record!) Anyways, I'm looking for some feedback. Let me know what you think.....! (Incase the link doesnt work, it's www.mormonsexposed.com)

Book Review #6: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

I have heard so many people describe this book as their "favorite book ever"...including Stephenie Meyer, author of "Eclipse" and the other "Twilight" books, so I figured it's something I should probably try out! It took me a long time to get into and read, which is something that I never do. I plow through books and lose all sense of time! I dont know why it took so long, perhaps its because it wasn't a book I would have naturally picked out on my own, considering it's genre is Sci-Fi. But, after I gave it my full attention on a car ride from Provo to Vegas, I couldnt put it down! I really did like it!! There are a lot of "Ender" books following this one, and I wasnt convinced that I wanted to read more, but as soon as I'm done writing this entry, I will be headed to the bookstore to get "Speaker for the dead". I'm totally not into "Star Wars",or space-themed stories, but "Ender's Game" has a more thought provoking and emotional side than just space wars, and rockets! It's not at all what you think it will end like! I appreciated that. So, my rating: A... A Must read!

Oh, the photoshoot!

My littlest sister is quite the artistic photographer. So, we did this shoot in the pool yesterday, and it must have looked like so much fun that Jessica's husband Eric joined in...hence the guy other than my husband in the pictures! What? This is how we take family pics in this family! :-) We went to Saver's and bought that dress for $12, so we didnt feel bad about drenching it in the pool! Jessica did my make-up and took the pics....this is what we do in our spare time. What can I say?

Mommy/Birthday LA getaway!

This last Labor day weekend, My friend Tawny and I decided to have a little mommy getaway, and since my birthday was yesterday, the 4th, we included that into the reason to go on vacation just us, no boys or kids allowed! :-) We went down to LA friday afternoon, at stayed at a nice hotel near the airport. Friday night we went to Santa Monica and shopped a little, ate, and saw "Hairspray", which Jake would never see! Saturday we decided to do anything and everything in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, LA that you could ever see celebs do in gossips mags like eating at Pinkberry yogurt, shopping at the Grove and the Farmer's Market, tanning at Sunset Tan, and eating at Ketchup the resturant that Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore own. It was surprisingly afforadble and really cool and swanky inside! Guys kept hitting on Tawny and one who invited us to the Les Duex nightclub. I honestly had never heard of it, but she was excited and filled me in on that fact that its always crawling with stars! We went, but unfortunately unlike Vegas where everything is open 24/7, this particular club closed at 2am, and we got there at 1:30 thinking it was the perfect time to get there, and it was practically closed. :-( The next day we treated ourselves to massages at the Bliss Spa inside the W Hotel in LA. It was wonderful!! After that, it was dinner at the Ivy (Which I give a thumbs down to...I dont get why everyone loves it!!), and shopping at Kitson that was cut short because we needed to get to the Pantages Theater to see Wicked!! I HIGHLY recommend it! I read the book a few years ago, and ever since wanted to see the musical. It was WAY better than I could have ever imagined! I want to see it again. That is where the fun started to wind down and we got ready to leave Monday morning. It's nice to be home admittedly, but it sure was fun to have a "Star-studded" weekend! We did see a few stars...Carson from "Queer Eye", Stavros (Paris' Boyfriend), Larry Birkhead, the Sunset Tan owners, and Criss Angel. We're just trying to figure out a time to plan another trip!
